The short answer: who is Lisa Ann?
Lisa Ann (real name Lisa Ann Corpora) is one of the best-known adult performers of her generation, and one of the few to reinvent herself in a totally unrelated, very public job. Wikipedia calls her “one of the most popular and successful pornographic film actresses in the world” (Wikipedia). Her story has two exits and one huge comeback, and it ends with a microphone, a stat sheet and a lot of very serious football fans.
A basketball kid from Easton
Ask Lisa Ann about her childhood and she talks about sports. To The Guardian she described growing up around Lafayette College basketball in Easton:
“My mom was a basketball mom at Lafayette College in Easton. She would bring us to every home game… It became our fiber.”
— Lisa Ann to The Guardian (source)
She told ABC’s Nightline her parents split up when she was young, and “sports were always where we came together and everything was great” (ABC News). The Guardian says her memoir traces “a complicated childhood as Lisa Ann Corpora in Easton, Pennsylvania” (The Guardian).
On the road at 20
Before film, she worked as a touring feature dancer. “By 20 years old, I was traveling alone,” she told ABC. “And sports became something that kept me company” (ABC News).
Sports did more than keep her company, she says. They protected her:
“I feel like sports kept me out of drugs. Out of drinking on the road. And it also gave me a comfortable something to talk about with men when I was travelling.”

Exit, spa, comeback
Her first run was short. According to Wikipedia, she spent her first two years under contract with Metro/Cal Vista, then quit in 1997 because of an AIDS scare in the industry. For the next seven years she danced, and she owned a day spa for four of them. In February 2006 a photo shoot for Suze Randall brought her back (Wikipedia).
The second act came with a business side. Wikipedia notes she worked as a talent agent and later launched her own agency. Her reason: performers over 30 were being rejected by other agents even as demand for them grew. She also directed, and her own production company’s first release won an AVN Award in 2014 (Wikipedia).
The role that changed everything
In 2008 Hustler cast her in a parody of vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin, released on Election Day. Wikipedia reports she prepared by watching the vice-presidential debate and studying Tina Fey’s SNL impression (Wikipedia). The Guardian says the film “turned her into a pop culture phenomenon that just won’t quit.” She also played Palin in Eminem’s “We Made You” video (The Guardian, Wikipedia).
She knew exactly what she had. “I rode that wave from 2008 until 2014,” she told ABC. “I worked myself to the bone” (ABC News).
The Guardian makes a point that’s rare in this business: she worked at the highest level well into her 40s. By her own admission she “wasn’t particularly popular in the 1990s,” but the role and the market shift gave her “enough financial security to retire” (The Guardian).
From the set to SiriusXM
She retired from performing in 2014 (Wikipedia). By the time Nightline caught up with her she had two SiriusXM shows. “Monday nights, my show is ‘Lisa Ann Does Fantasy’ with my co-host Adam Ronis,” she said. “And on Thursday mornings, I do a fun show called ‘The Morning Men,’ and they’re not changing the name even though there’s a woman involved” (ABC News).
She addressed the stigma head-on:
“People would tell you, ‘Once you’ve done porn, you’re never going to get another job.’”
— Lisa Ann to ABC News (source)
And she enjoyed one perk of the new job: “I’ve had to be naked so much of my life that you have to understand how happy I am to get to wear clothes” (ABC News).
The hall monitor
Lisa Ann isn’t nostalgic about everything. In the Guardian interview, later picked up by The Independent, she warned about drug use and extreme scenes taking a toll on newer performers: “Everyone’s a ticking time bomb, and a lot of it is linked to the drugs” (The Independent, The Guardian). The Guardian reports she wants performers to have pensions, health insurance and career guidance, like the pro athletes she knows. She calls herself “the hall monitor in every aspect of everyone’s life.”
Her closing line to The Guardian: “I just want people to remember I cared.”
My Take (opinion — Maximo Garcia)
Lisa Ann is the blueprint for a second career, and it isn’t because she was lucky. She had a real passion that had nothing to do with sex, she protected it for 20 years, and when the moment came she was the most credible person in the room on that subject. I tell young performers the same thing: have something you’re genuinely nerdy about. It keeps you sane on the road and it might pay your bills later.
I also respect that she talks about safety on set without pretending the business is all bad or all good. That’s the honest middle, and it’s where I try to stay too. My own work and links are at maximogarciaworld.com.
